CYB303 - Cybersecurity Risks Analysis, Challenges and Mitigation

Cybersecurity Risks Analysis, Challenges and Mitigation explores the principles and practices involved in identifying, assessing, and managing security threats in modern digital environments. The course examines various types of cyber risks, including malware attacks, data breaches, insider threats, and vulnerabilities in distributed and cloud-based systems. It also addresses emerging challenges such as advanced persistent threats, zero-day exploits, and the complexities of securing large-scale and heterogeneous networks. Students will gain practical knowledge of risk assessment frameworks, security policies, and mitigation strategies, with an emphasis on proactive defense, incident response, and resilience in organizational infrastructures.

Objectives

The objective of this course is to equip students with the knowledge and analytical skills required to evaluate cybersecurity risks and implement effective mitigation strategies. It aims to develop competencies in threat modeling, vulnerability assessment, and risk management while fostering an understanding of current cybersecurity challenges in real-world systems. The course also seeks to prepare students to design and apply appropriate security controls, policies, and frameworks to protect information assets in both centralized and distributed computing environments.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, students should be able to analyze and classify various cybersecurity threats and vulnerabilities affecting information systems; conduct comprehensive risk assessments using standard methodologies; evaluate the impact of emerging cyber threats on organizational operations; design and implement effective mitigation strategies and security controls; and apply best practices in incident response, cybersecurity governance, and resilience planning within diverse computing environments.
